Prologue

There will be some selling of homemade food made by my mum. The selling is not for COMMERCIAL purpose, hope you all understand that everything is done manually with HANDS not machine. Only limited quantity on first come first serve basis.

If you take a trip to the market nearby your area, you will find some aunties saying "Hey all these are homemade, I made it myself".

What is HOMEMADE to you?

Food that is home-produced, not machine? Take moon cake as example; do you know that the fillings (red bean/lotus paste) can be purchased in the market these days? Yes, at an incredible low price. Many people would just purchase the filings and bake the skin and claim it as HOMEMADE.

Well, it is house-produced. But have you seen how it is made, by machine? Are the ingredients being washed and picked carefully? No idea. And for your information, the paste could be kept for a long time because it has a lot sweetening and preservatives. (Sweetening helps the food to hold on longer until few months, some until half year) Normal homemade one can ONLY be kept for the maximum duration of 1 week.

SG-kitchen bakes food in chronological processes, not short cut. Take lotus paste as example. First it is carefully washed and picked to ensure no spoiled/unknown dirt in the beans. Later on it is baked from the lotus bean and cooked (after steam the bean and cook for an hour) Cooking mean stirring in pan non-stop for an hour.

Profit Making?

Not much likely to be honest. Even it has, it is not worth actually for all the hard work and hassles. The ingredients do not come cheap recently. Of course we would not go for cheap ingredients just to make profit, it's HOMEMADE and my mum would go for good quality ingredients. It started a few years ago when our close relatives requested my mum to sell the food to them as they would like to give it to their friends as gifts.

Homemade Feel

If you would like to go for nice packaging, nice look, branded, please go for the ones in the market. Homemade food does not look as nice as the ones you can get in the market in terms of packaging. Sometimes if you do realise, the texture of the food is different too.

Please do not compare machine with human hands. Of course handmade food is not perfect in terms of the appearance. It is impossible to get 100% same outcome (food), hands are different from machine. Of course, hands are clean. Machines can produce in bulk quantity whereas it is limited with homemade. We are human, not machines.

That's why the pricing is different. If you feel like going for nice packaging, nice appearance with preservatives and sweetening, branded one - please purchase it somewhere else.

Thank you and please stay tuned for more!
