Almond London Cookies with Almond Flakes Topping & Muruku

CNY cookies were selling like hotcakes few years back in LYN. However, due to server maintenance in the forum, all the pictures, testimonials, and selling history were gone.

Upon demand, my mum decided to bake the cookies again! Do note that homemade cookies are made in limited quantities. :)

Almond London Cookies with Almond Flakes Topping

Butter Cookies with whole almond in it, coated with bitter-sweet chocolate (namely Dark Chocolate) with almond flakes topping. The almonds used are US almonds, do you know health benefits of almonds?

Almonds provide double-barreled protection against diabetes and cardiovascular disease. They are high in monounsaturated fats, the same type of health-promoting fats as are found in olive oil, which have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease. In addition to their cholesterol-lowering effects, almonds' ability to reduce heart disease risk may also be partly due to the antioxidant action of the Vitamin E found in the almonds, as well as to the LDL-lowering effect of almonds' monounsaturated fats.
(Information from HERE)

The baking process:

After a while, the chocolate congeals.

Around 40 pcs per bottle. :)

My personal review:

I am never a big fan of chocolate but this indulges me a lot! As a lady, I'm very concern and afraid that I'd put on weight with chocolate. I don't eat sweet foods by the way. Be rest assured because it's not very sweet as bitter chocolate (dark chocolate) is used and you'll crave for more after a bite! With the whole almond in the biscuit and almond flakes topping, I'm so in love with almonds.

The decent and royalty-packaging is very nice too, very presentable and makes one crave for more! =D

Also the Muruku that my mum has made for a special return customer upon request!

It's around 550 net weight, excluding container. Secret recipe by my mum, added with sesame for extra crunch and aroma! The pics with and without flash.

Delivery areas:
- Maybank opposite Ampang Park LRT
- Wangsa Maju

*Subject to availability on first come first served basis. Please understand that it's homemade and require at least 3-4 days to prepare ingredients, cook fillings and bake. Do place order in advanced should you wish to reserve.

Issue on sweetness & Concern for Diabetes Patients
Some of the customers are diabetes patients and they take my mum's mooncake.

Mooncakes can never be sugar-free, the filling cannot be cooked without sugar, it will end up in liquid form. In market there are some that says "sugar-free" or "low sugar", manufacturers replace it with other sweetening ingredients which in the end will harm our body.

For my mum's mooncakes, it wont be sweet, but of course not 100% sweetless, sweetness is very minimum and you can taste the true taste of the beans rather than sweetening. Market ones can last about few weeks or even months, because it has a large amount of sweetening and preservatives. (Sweetening preserves the mooncake to last for longer time) For my mum's mooncake, the mooncakes can only last for about 5 days and is made fresh.

Of course, According to doctors it is best to take sugarless food, but sometimes it is very difficult. If you're looking for mooncakes without any sugar then it's not possible. However I would recommend you to give it a try. It's hard for me to tell as I'm the selling person, you might not believe. Do check testimonials, or you may ask around customers who have tasted it, they will let you know how it tastes like.

YEAR 2009

(fruitie @ Sep 24 2009, 04:54 PM)
Oh dear, just noticed I haven't actually given my testimonial for your mum's homemade mooncakes.

Though I need to travel from one end of Kelana Jaya Line to another end just to collect my mooncakes but I should say my effort is totally paid off. The mooncakes were great! The texture is soft and fine, not too sweet, it just satisfies my family's taste.

Parents' favourite was the Wu Ren, so I have the baked Pandan Lotus all by myself. rclxms.gif Parents keep praising how scrumptious the Wu Ren were. Mum was saying those sold outside have very hard nuts and not easy to chew but Valerie's mum's Wu Ren was totally amazing! You all should try it. I don't really favour Wu Ren all this while probably because those sold outside spoilt my taste but after had the first bite of this homemade Wu Ren, it totally changed my thought about it.

Did I say I just love the pandan lotus+salted egg? Simply tasty and I'm craving for it now, seriously. drool.gif

For the above reasons, I have placed my second order with her. This time I'm opting for snowskinned mooncakes, hopefully they are as scrumptious as those baked ones. biggrin.gif

Even the complimentary cookies are totally for the win! Does your mum make cookies during CNY?
p/s: I'm not paid to write up this. Totally my honest opinion.
